A central component of the ministry of PARL is Public Affairs. Through building key relationships in the community, PARL seeks to position the Seventh-day Adventist Church to a standing of credibility, trust, and relevance in the public space.

During the COVID pandemic, the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty ministry was invited to serve on the Governor of Maryland’s Taskforce on the Closing and Reopening of Houses of Worship. This taskforce provided essential insights which lead to the state’s decision that houses of worship and faith leaders are designated as essential service.  In addition, the Adventist Church sponsored lunch for healthcare workers at a Maryland hospital and coordinated numerous food giveaways in partnership with local retailers and community leaders. As part of the NAD Community Initiatives Committee, PARL helped fund the construction of a playground for a local community daycare. PARL additionally serves on the Howard County Hospital Faith and Health Advisory. The relationship with Howard County General Hospital led to NAD's role as host venue for three vaccination clinics during which almost 1,000 shots were administered to children and adults from our community.
