The “Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007” is a bill that would extend federal jurisdiction to, and provide federal resources for, the investigation and prosecution of “hate crimes.” Further, it sets the prison terms for “hate crimes” in some circumstances. There are four primary concerns over the bill:
First, some claim it will outlaw speech by those who believe homosexual activity is immoral.

The Supreme Court Monday issued its long awaited decision in Hein v. Freedom From Religion Foundation, a case to determine whether ordinary Americans may challenge Executive Branch spending on religion allegedly violating the Establishment Clause. The answer: no American may challenge Executive Branch spending on religion. The case challenged President Bush’s so-called “faith-based initiative,” but the Supreme Court threw out the challenge.

All this week, the political “hub-bub” has been on the Democratic and Republican debates and, of course, on the stances each of the presidential contenders have taken on “the issues” such as the Iraq War, abortion, immigration, and a national health plan.
